District 1 is the place to be. It’s where everything happens. It’s the financial heart of the city, it’s where most tourists end up because of the many museums, restaurants, and bars it offers. It has beautiful parks, great local markets as well as giant malls. It has a cathedral and a world-famous post office.
Shopping can be done at Ben Thanh Market, where you can get a good deal if you know how to negotiate or you can browse what the most expansive brands in the world have to offer on Dong Khoi street.
District 1 will present an interesting problem: they are so many restaurants in the area, you’ll have a hard time picking one! From tasty street food on almost every corner to fancy restaurants, you will find any kind of cuisine you can imagine.
For those who enjoy a busy nightlife, Pham Ngu Lao is a great destination and a little more than a 5-minute drive away. It is reminiscent of Bangkok’s Kao San Road, with many bars and restaurants all crammed in a two-block area. The natural destination of most backpackers, it’s a great place to enjoy cheap beer and do some bar-hopping.

Noir, Dining in the Dark (180D Hai Ba Trung, Da Kao Ward, District 1): This restaurant has a great concept: you dine in complete obscurity while being served by blind waiters and waitresses. It’s just on the other side of the Le Van Tam Park compared to the apartment.
