The birth of Move in Saigon
Who we are
We’re a pair of Viet-Kieu brothers who set out on our Vietnam adventure to rediscover our roots and explore the potential of building our own businesses here in vibrant Ho Chi Minh City. Born and raised in France, it wasn’t until 2015 that we decided to return to Saigon, the birthplace of our parents.
We came to Vietnam expecting that there would be many challenges ahead. With our corporate finance and digital backgrounds, we thought that most of our difficulties would take the form of simply starting a business. Establishing networks, finding talent, getting an office space… not to mention all the operational tasks to really get our feet on the ground.
But first – we had a few hiccups… and this is why we started
Actually, one of the most profound and unexpected challenges we faced in our relocation was in fact – the process of finding a place to live.
In Europe, the steps are simple, especially if you seek the help of an agent. We were both shocked to find just how compromised the experience here is.
The challenges we faced were varied, but it was tough finding a landlord that was helpful, easy to deal with, and reliable. Too often in our search, we would have viewings arranged only to then be canceled on at the last minute. Another infuriating factor was the hunger for deposits, and the plain reluctance to pay these back.
As foreigners, we noticed that we were often quoted much higher prices. It was annoying at first. As time went on though, it was disheartening, and the entire journey consumed so much of our time energy. We always found there were too many agents and not enough photos. Listings were rarely authentic, and the offers were always the same. We viewed ten houses in total before finally settling on where we live now. The process from start to finish was exhausting when it really didn’t have to be.

And – we knew that we were not alone. Many expats we meet are full of tales of similar, unnecessary frustrations.
Saigon is fast becoming an international hot spot, and we understand that the number of expats moving here are on the rise. Experiences like this can turn people away from a place, as it instills an air of distrust early on. We don’t want people to have that impression as soon as they land, before they’ve even got to know the city. Saigon is a great place, and we want expats to feel that way, too. Realizing that this was a real problem, we decided to be proactive about remedying it. And so, Move in Saigon was born.
Our values have come from our (annoying) experience
Through launching our own portal, we hoped to remove some of the main frustrations we faced when we moved here.
Our own experience has shaped the values we have today.
- We only use authentic, high-quality photos
- Our experts cover detailed information about each compound including the facilities, amenities and any conveniences or nuisances that come with a particular property
- We believe that regardless of a client’s intention, this should not influence how much or how little information is provided.
We hope to offer people a fresh, transparent and more positive real estate experience in Saigon. We’re very proud of how far we’ve come in the short time we’ve been around, and we look forward to what the future has in store!
